Data transfer to external HDD/flash memory using USB connection
[The entire system][Data analysis servers(kaim* & kaih*)][MDAS terminals(sbt* & alt*)][Network][Others]
Use the MDAS terminals (alt*, sbt*) to copy (transfer)
your data into an external HDD/Flash memory using USB connection
in the Multi-wavelength Data Analysis System.
NFS disk areas (/lfs*) are mounted on the MDAS terminals.
When you copy your data from a local work area (/wkm*, /wkh*) on
the interactive analysis servers (kaim*, kaih*), you need to bring
your data from each analysis server(*1).
(*1)
Remote login to the MDAS terminals is not allowed.
You have to operate on a terminal to transfer your data from
an analysis server as follows.
(e.g.)
[hogehoge@sbt14 ~]: cd /run/media/hogehoge/Data_disk
[hogehoge@sbt14 ~]: scp -r kaih01:/wkh01/hogehoge .
To copy data with user privileges, it may be necessary to format
an external HDD/Flash memory on a terminal.
Prepare an external HDD/Flash memory which can be formatted.
How to format on the MDAS terminal is as follows.
1. Login a terminal and connect USB HDD/Memory.
2. Select "Applications" -> "Utilities" -> "Disks" from the
menu bar in the upper left.
3. "Disk" window is opened. Choose the connected USB HDD/Memory
from the left field of the window.
4. Click "-" mark in the lower left in the "Volumes" column
for deleting the initial partition.
When the message as "Are you sure you want to delete the partition?"
is displayed, click "Delete".
5. Next, Click "+" mark in the lower left in the "Volumes" column
to open the "Create Partition" window.
Select "FAT" or "Ext4" in the "Type" column.
* FAT file-system is available on Windows, too.
Ext4 is a standard file-system on Linux.
* Do not select "NTFS" file-system because the terminal
is not able to format NTFS file-system.
* When you want to use xfs file-system,
- Select "Custom" in the "Type" column.
- Display the input box of file-system, and enter "xfs" in the box.
6. "Name" field is optional. This will be the mount point name.
Click "Create" to start formatting.
Formatting is completed in a short time.
7. Click the ">" mark in the lower left in the "Volumes" column
to mount the formatted USB HDD/Memory (*).
After that, it is possible to copy (transfer) into the USB
HDD/Memory with user privileges.
* When clicking the ">" mark, it changes into "■" mark.
Click the "■" mark to unmount the USB HDD/Memory.
If the USB HDD/Memory is removed and reconnected,
it will be re-mounted, too.
Aautomatic mount point is /run/media/[user ID]/[disk name].
# When data copy (transfer) from the USB HDD/Memory on the terminals
to other computers, you need to be "root" of that computer.
