!The problem of 32bit binary programs

Dear users,

Thank you very much for using ADC analysis system always.
The analysis system has the following problem at present.


[Problem]
There are cases when a part of software included 32bit binary 
programs (commands) cannot open files in /lfs* and /wk[m,h]* area.

Software to be influenced this problem (under /usr/local)
- JNewstarLinux  All commands
- newstar        Almost all
- IRAF 2.14.1    Almost all (Exception: a part of STSDAS)
- IRAF 2.16.1    Part (STSDAS, TABLES, noao.digiphot.photocal)
- x11iraf        All commands
- mpeg_encode
- mpeg_play

* Example:
- "imcalc" command included IRAF/STSDAS cannot manipulate (open) files in /lfs* area.
- The commands of "newstar" cannot manipulate (open) files in /wk* area.


[Cause]
This problem occur because 32bit binary programs cannot correspond
the inode number of 64bit file-system.
* Under investigating for details.


[Measures, Workaround]
We are currently considering correction of the file-system,
however it will take more time.
* Under consideration the way to suppress impact for operation.

The workaround of this problem:
You should use /home* area (your home directory) when you would like
to use the above software. We confirmed that this problem does not
occur in /home* area (home directory).
* Because inode numbers are fitted within the range of 32bit in
/home* area (home directory), this problem does not occur.

日頃のご利用ありがとうございます。
現在、当システムでは以下の問題が判明しております。


[問題・現象]
32bit の バイナリプログラム (コマンド) が含まれている、一部ソフトウェア
において、/lfs*, /wk[m,h]* 領域にあるファイル対して、ファイルオープンに
失敗する場合がある。

本問題の影響を受ける /usr/local 下のソフトウェア例
- JNewstarLinux  全て
- newstar        ほぼ全て
- IRAF 2.14.1      ほぼ全て (例外: STSDASの一部)
- IRAF 2.16.1      一部 (STSDAS, TABLES, noao.digiphot.photocal)
- x11iraf        全て
- mpeg_encode
- mpeg_play

※具体的には、「/lfs* 領域上にあるファイルに対して、IRAF/STSDAS の 
imcalc でファイルを操作（オープン）できない」「/wk* 領域にあるファイルに
対して newstar のコマンドでファイルを操作（オープン）できない」など。


[原因]
32bit バイナリプログラムが 64bitファイルシステムの inode番号に
対応できてないため、本問題が発生している。細部は継続調査中。


[対処・回避策]
現在、ファイルシステムの設定修正を検討中ですが、もうしばらく時間が
かかります（運用への影響を最小限に抑える方法を検討中です）。

回避策として、/home* 領域 (ユーザホームディレクリ) では、本問題が
発生しないことを確認しております(※)。
申し訳ありませんが、しばらくの間、上記のソフトウェアを利用した作業は
/home* 上で行って頂ければと考えております。

※/home* 領域は、割り振られるinode番号が32bitの範囲に収まるため、
本問題が発生しません。
