To increase the number of virtual screens (workspaces) in the GNOME desktop, 
do the following:

+Open a terminal and enter 'gnome-tweaks' to start the GNOME Tweaks.
+Select 'Workspaces' on the left side menu, and change the "Number of Workspaces" on the right side screen.
