About the system

The Astronomy Data Center (ADC) Multi-Wavelength Data Analysis System (MDAS) is used to do analytical research of astronomical observation data. The numerical calculations and simulations with massive using this system are not allowed. Please use another computer system operated by Center for Computational Astrophysics (CfCA) if you would like to do those researches.

Account grant policy

Those who can use the ADC Multi-Wavelength Data Analysis System are as follows:
  1. Employees at the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan
  2. Researchers including graduate students in astronomy and related fields
  3. A person approved by the director of the ADC

For "non-residents" of Japan

For a person who belongs to an institute in a foreign country, a NAOJ research and academic staff (professor, associate professor, or assistant professor) in charge of acceptance is required. Please fill in the staff information. We will confirm it. (It will be smooth if the staff let us know in advance.)
If the staff in charge of acceptance is not specified, the account may not be issued.

From 2018, we carry out a routine procedure for all "non-resident" users of Japan (users of an institute in a foreign country, temporary visitors in Japan, etc.) who will obtain a new account and use the system continuously. Please refer to this page for details. Because of this procedure, it will take longer than usual to issue the account for non-resident users.

User account Expiration

The expiration date for the user account is the year-end of each fiscal year. The update procedure is necessary for continuous use. Information of the update procedure will be notified by e-mail to the registered address.

Application for account update after deadline

This page is for new account application and change of registration information. If you would like to make an annual account update after the deadline (for unlocking the account), please contact consult (atmark) ana.nao.ac.jp and let us know your account name.

To change your E-mail address

To change your E-mail address registered in the system (and "allusers" mailing list), you need to use the "modify_userinfo -m" command after login to the system ("kai??" servers).

Access from the outside of NAOJ

for Non-NAOJ staff
If you would like to access our system from the outside of NAOJ, you need to use "the VPN service for the ADC Multi-Wavelength Data Analysis System". To use this service, you have to apply for the service after your account has been issued.

for NAOJ staff
You shuld use another VPN service for NAOJ staff (The service is provided by the Network support team). https://nethelp.mtk.nao.ac.jp/contents/en/node/4
